Carla Laurel named Executive Director at West Bay
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – APRIL 10, 2017 – West Bay Pilipino Multi Service Center announces that Carla Laurel will become the new Executive Director Monday, April 10, 2017.
Carla started at West Bay as a volunteer in 2007, then became the After-School Program Coordinator, Development Consultant, College Prep Program Case Manager, and most recently College Prep Program Coordinator. Two years ago, she successfully wrote and advocated for the first culturally sensitive College Prep Program in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood catering to Filipino American youth.
“I am honored, privileged, and humbled to follow in the inimitable footsteps of Pilipino American community leaders, like Ed De La Cruz & Anita Sanchez”, said Carla Laurel. “West Bay has been and continues to be an extended family and imperative resource for many Pilipino Americans in the SoMa. I look forward to working with the board, the staff and the community in acknowledging West Bay’s rich history and Pilipino culture. Together, we will continue to cultivate the potential of every youth, parent, senior and family member West Bay serves”.
“Carla’s passion for West Bay and the families that we serve, makes her by far the most qualified to lead West Bay into the future”, said Brian Figula, Board President.
West Bay is the oldest Filipino-led 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization in Northern California. The organization continues to provide culturally sensitive academic, social, health, and economic sustainability services to underserved youth, their families, and seniors in the SoMa community of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.
